Art at Gluten Glory

Gluten Glory is not a gallery. But it has always felt wrong to us to fill a space with nothing on the walls.

The building at Strada Copilului 20A has a particular quality — industrial light, honest materials, height. It felt like a space that could hold art without apologising for it. So we started putting work on the walls. And we kept going.

The Collection

How It Works

The collection is permanent and rotating. Some works have been here since we opened. Others come and go. We select artists based on personal taste — there is no formal application process, no committee, no brief. If we respond to the work, we find a way to show it.

Some works are available for purchase. Others are not. Every piece in the space has a QR code that links directly to the artist or the gallery that represents them — so if something stops you while you're waiting for your coffee, you can find out more in thirty seconds.

We work closely with Jecza Gallery — one of the most active contemporary art galleries in Romania — as well as with artists represented by Nicodim Gallery.

On The Walls

The Artists

Ecaterina Vrana (1969–2019)
Born in Constanța and studied painting at the Academy of Arts in Bucharest. Already considered a classic of Romanian contemporary art, her work has been exhibited at the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Bucharest, the Performance Art Institute in San Francisco, and in collections across Europe and the United States.
Lives and works in Bucharest. His practice — sculptures, objects and installations — starts from hypothetical and sometimes absurd situations, exploring tensions between industrial and bricolage materials. He has shown at Nicodim Gallery in both Bucharest and Los Angeles, and internationally in Beijing and beyond.
A Romanian artist represented by Jecza Gallery. His work is part of a generation of Romanian artists building an international presence through rigorous practice and strong gallery representation.
Zoltan Bela, Mihnea Damaceanu & Cosmin Florea
Complete the current roster — each bringing a distinct visual language to Gluten Glory.
Why

Why We Do This

We didn't open an art space. We opened a bakery. But the two things are not as far apart as they sound.

Both involve making something carefully and putting it in front of people. Both reward attention. Both are better when the environment around them is considered rather than accidental.

The artists we show range from established figures — Ecaterina Vrana is already considered a classic of Romanian contemporary art — to mid-career and emerging voices. What they share is work that we respond to personally. There is no other selection criteria.

A bakery that opens at 8am and serves hundreds of people a week is, it turns out, a reasonable place to show art. Not everyone who comes for a croissant will stop in front of a painting. But some will. And that feels like enough reason to keep doing it.

We are not trying to be a gallery. We are trying to be a good space. The art is part of that.
